FAA-Certified Autopilot for Your Legacy Cessna
The Trio Pro Pilot holds FAA STC approval across nine Cessna models — from the 150 trainer to the radial-engine 190/195. Select your aircraft below to view pricing and availability.
Modern Autopilot. Vintage Airframe. No EFIS Required.
Whether you're flying steam gauges or have upgraded to a modern EFIS, the Trio Pro Pilot works with your current panel — not against it. Built-in pitch and roll sensors mean no required EFIS purchase, unlike the Garmin GFC 500.
The complete installation kit includes a factory-built wiring harness specific to your Cessna model. Your A&P/IA doesn't need to fabricate wiring — it's built and tested before it ships. Any A&P holding Inspection Authorization can complete the install under the STC.
What Does a Cessna Autopilot Actually Cost?
The most common question — and the one nobody publishes honestly. Here's the full picture.
Trio Pro Pilot vs Garmin GFC 500 for Cessna Owners
Two capable certified autopilots. Very different price points. Here's how to choose.
Choose the Trio Pro Pilot if…
You own a legacy Cessna 150, 152, 172, 177, 182, or other STC-covered model and want a modern two-axis certified autopilot without a full panel rebuild.
You have a trusted local A&P or avionics shop and want the flexibility to use them. The Trio installs under the STC with any A&P holding Inspection Authorization — no Garmin dealer required.
You already have a GPS — whether a Garmin 430W, 530W, Avidyne IFD, or a portable — the Trio works with what you own. No new GPS purchase required to fly coupled GPS approaches with vertical guidance.
Consider the GFC 500 if…
You fly ILS approaches to minimums regularly and need full coupled instrument approach capability including ILS. The GFC 500 provides this — the Trio Pro Pilot does not couple to ILS approaches.
You're already invested in the Garmin ecosystem with a G5 or GI-275 installed, a GTN navigator, and a Garmin-authorized shop you trust. In that configuration the GFC 500's cost premium shrinks because the mandatory EFIS hardware is already installed.
Budget is not a primary constraint and you want the most capable aftermarket autopilot available for certified light singles regardless of cost.
Each model ships with an aircraft-specific Trio Pro Pilot installation kit. Select yours to view pricing and order.
150 / 152
The Cessna 150 and 152 are among the most-flown trainers in history. The Trio Pro Pilot brings modern certified autopilot capability to both models — two-axis GPS tracking, altitude hold, and approach capability without touching the existing instrument panel.
170B
A classic taildragger with a loyal following. The Trio Pro Pilot is FAA-certified for the Cessna 170B under STC SA04230CH — modern autopilot precision without altering the vintage character of the aircraft.
172 Skyhawk
The world's most popular aircraft deserves a capable autopilot. The Trio Pro Pilot is FAA-certified for the Cessna 172 across all series — C172 through C172S and T182 variants. Flies coupled GPS approaches, holds altitude, and integrates with your existing GPS navigator. No EFIS required.
175 Skylark
The Cessna 175 Skylark autopilot installation is clean and straightforward. The Trio Pro Pilot kit is aircraft-specific — wiring harness pre-built, hardware pre-matched. Your A&P/IA installs, not fabricates.
177 Cardinal
The Cessna Cardinal's smooth handling pairs well with the Trio Pro Pilot's precise GPS tracking. FAA-certified for the 177, 177A, 177B, and 177RG. Two-axis autopilot capability — altitude hold, vertical speed, GPS approach — in 40–45 installation hours.
180
The Cessna 180 taildragger is a capable working aircraft. The Trio Pro Pilot adds certified autopilot capability without disrupting the utility of the platform — FAA-approved under STC SA04230CH for all 180 through 180K variants.
182 Skylane
One of the most popular Cessna models for cross-country IFR flight. The Trio Pro Pilot is FAA-certified for the Cessna 182 across all series through the 182T and T182T — flies coupled GPS approaches with vertical guidance when paired with a WAAS-capable navigator.
185 Skywagon
The Cessna 185 Skywagon is a serious backcountry machine. The Trio Pro Pilot autopilot installation keeps panel impact minimal — the control head fits a standard instrument hole or the radio stack, leaving your panel layout intact for the work the 185 was built to do.
190 / 195
The radial-engine Cessna 190 and 195 are among the most distinctive aircraft in general aviation. The Trio Pro Pilot is FAA-certified for both models — modern autopilot capability that respects the vintage character of these classics. STC SA04230CH and LC126 A&B coverage included.
